Why Dark Romance is Our Comfort Food: Massive Spicy Book Recs & Unhinged Tropes 🖤

What is up my beautiful coven?! It is Rebecca here, and I am still recovering from the absolute chaos that was this week's podcast recording with Kirsty and Jess. If you haven't listened to Season 4 Episode 10 yet, you need to go queue it up on Spotify or Apple Podcasts right now because we went totally feral. We are talking about the ultimate question (and honestly the thing that keeps my sanity intact) which is why dark romance is our absolute comfort food!

You know the exact vibe I am talking about. The weather outside is awful, you are stressed out, and the only thing that will fix it is curling up with an 18+ spicy romantasy featuring an unhinged shadow daddy who would literally burn the world down for his girl... Why are we like this?! We don't know, but we embrace it!

⚖️ The Trope Trial & DNF Court Drama

We took some of our favorite tropes straight to the Trope Trial to figure out exactly why they have us in an absolute chokehold. Forbidden love and enemies to lovers will always win, but we also talked about some of those character choices that completely divided us. Sometimes you just have to sentence a book to the DNF Court if the main character makes too many stupid decisions, but when the miscommunication is done right, the tension is just amazing.

We also got completely derailed talking about Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan teaming up for a supernatural romance book and movie called Remain! Like, what even is that crossover?! Plus we chatted about Kirsty's freezing travel stories from Alberta, the absolute nightmare of international electrical outlets, and how reading sick is its own separate emotional rollercoaster.

🌶️ The Spice O Meter: Massive Dark Romance & Romantasy Recs

Okay, get your TBR lists ready because we dropped a massive book dump that will absolutely ruin your life in the best way possible. These are strictly adult, unputdownable, open door masterpieces that gave us major book hangovers. We ran these through the Spice O Meter and let's just say a few of them broke the scale!

Here are the heavy hitters we are currently obsessing over:

  • The Predator by Runyx (the tension will literally make you stop breathing)

  • Lights Out by Navessa Allen

  • Rain of Shadows and Endings from the Legacy Series by Melissa K. Roehrich (I was physically sobbing over this one)

  • The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori

  • The Butcher and the Blackbird and Taurus Season by Brynne Weaver

  • God of Malice by Rina Kent

  • The Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy

  • Untamed by Luna Mason

  • Stolen Vows and Promises and Pomegranates by Sav R. Miller

  • Insatiable by Leigh Rivers

  • The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe

  • Pretty Vicious by Lexi Davis

  • Leave Me Behind by K.M. Moronova

  • Stalked by Seduction and Shadows by Maggie Sunseri

  • Keepsakes and Kismet by Farrah Colson

  • The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

  • Blood and Betrayals by Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune (this dark academia romantasy is everything)

  • Nocticadia by Keri Lake

🔮 Rebecca's Radar & Wild Theories

Before we wrapped up, we had to put our tin foil hats on for some massive Crescent City and ACOTAR crossover theories! If you know me, you know I cannot stop talking about Sarah J. Maas, and the theories Jess and Kirsty brought to the table left me staring at the wall. We are also keeping a huge eye on some upcoming fall releases for Rebecca's Radar, so definitely make sure you are subscribed to the podcast to hear our next deep talks on those!
